How many of you have been fans of the Bournvita Quiz Contest growing up? I know I have been. And so, when Rahul contacted with me with the news that they were planning to resurrect the BQC, not only did it bring back fond memories, but also spurred me to do something about it.
So here I am, doing what I do best: Blogging about it.
For the benefit of the non-Indian readers of my blog, as the name suggests, BQC was a wonderfully hosted quiz competition which aired on radio and TV when I was a kid. It was one of the most coveted quiz shows for us nerds to go to. Needless to say, I was never able to make the cut, though I was an avid quizzer in my time. (I still am, but nowadays, I am more into medical quizzing).
Anyways, so these guys set up a Facebook Page for the revolution, and it seems to be going strong, with nearly 150,000 people having pledged their alliance to the cause. I am one of them as well!
Also, it would not be the worst thing in the world to see THE guru of Quizmasters, Derek O’ B back in the master’s seat. To be honest, whilst people have jumped out of their skins to vote for SRK or the BIG B as quiz masters, Derek has had me by the brainstem ever since my childhood, when I wanted to be on his show at any costs. And if this is any indication, we may yet see him back on the screen:
Whilst Derek has moved on to bigger and better things in life, us quizzards remember him and the show over and above anything else.
I have been quizzing on and off, with lesser and lesser frequency every year, especially since our quizzing team were regular quizmasters at my high school, Ramakrishna Mission, Narendrapur. (Though I am not quite sure if I will be able to do that this year).
Anyways. I think with the quizzing standards generally dropping, and with very little quality television on show, it would be a great move if BQC could be given a second lease of life.
Hey, all I wanna say is:
