CDC: Learning from TV Shows–Preventing the Zombie Apocalypse

So, there was this TV Show, The Walking Dead, which spoke of a Zombie Apocalypse befalling the earth, destroying most of human civilization. The show follows a group of survivors who try to find their way to survival. And, towards the end of the season that was airing, they go to the CDC and there is only ONE doctor left there who is working on an antidote and still seems to be all lost because he is too dumb and traumatized to figure it all out.

The season literally ends with a bang as the CDC blows up, and along with that, the last American hopes of researching a cure.

Now I am sure the CDC was very disturbed to hear of this, and some intense introspection followed, and they ended up asking the important question, the one that mattered:

And since it appears the answer was a big, fat  NO, they decided to do something about it: create an emergency kit. Take a look at their latest article on Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse. They discuss at length what should be done in the case of such an unforeseen disaster should it befall us. And finally, they conclude, pretty honestly:

If you're ready for a zombie apocalypse, then you're ready for any emergency. emergency.cdc.gov

Q. So, should we start preparing for an impending Zombie Apocalypse?

A. Although it would be fun to see if it really happens the way the movie directors and horror story writers have predicted it, it ain’t happening any time soon. Although reliable sources like the Oatmeal (check completely plagiarized notes below) are working on finding out a potential way to spark off the ZA, I am pretty sure, this is not happening anytime soon.

Q. But why did the CDC do this?

A. Because they are really cool. You do realize that the zillions of (imaginary) followers of this blog, and elsewhere, will line up to see the CDC Emergency preparedness site and in addition to this one, they will click around to see some more stuff? Stuff that can, like, actually happen in real life?

I want to work for them. They are SOOO COOOL!!!

Q. So what should I do?

A. Go to their site, check out shit. Like right now! Oh, and subscribe to my blog if you aren’t already.

P.S.: If you are a PYT, do not hesitate to get in touch. I am awesome! Winking smile

Q. Why don’t we have such cool guys running the system in India?

A. Wait until I make it through the dratted PGMEEs. Dammit! That might take some time. Till then, keep asking this question to yourself and crying over Spilt Milk.

P.S.: If you do not know what exactly a Zombie Apocalypse is, let me direct you to the wonderful source of great scientific information that fuels my brain: The Oatmeal.
